ZOOM! Family Sundays at Harbourfront Centre

For those of you who are looking for somewhere to take your kids on the weekend, Harbourfront Centre always delivers quality family programs. ZOOM! Family Sundays actually started back in September and is winding down, but there are still two opportunities to spend a fun-filled afternoon of family activities: December 10th and 17th from 1-5 p.m. And did I mention it's free?

ZOOM! activities include concerts, tours of the art exhibitions, readings at the Children's Reading Library, puppet theatre, and skating at the Natrel Rink. Gallery Kids brings kids and parents into the The Power Plant at York Quay Centre from 2-4 pm on Sunday.

One Zone: Free Wireless Internet From Toronto Hydro

This is kind of old news, but in September Toronto Hydro launched a free wireless internet network in the dowtown Toronto core. It's expected to be fully operational by the end of December. Spanning a border from Front Street north to Bloor, and Jarvis west to Spadina, the Wi-Fi network covers just over six square kilometres.

The great news is they're offering the service free for six months, so there is still a few months to take advantage of free internet in downtown Toronto. Free access is available until March 6th, 2007.

This service will be especially useful for visitors to Toronto that want to access maps or directions, since the network can easily be accessed using any Wi-Fi device including cell phones.

Phantom Hosiery Warehouse Sale

This morning I became aware of yet another warehouse sale going on in Toronto this weekend. This is a one day only affair on December 10th.

Phantom Hosiery will be clearing out stock on all sorts of goodies including Silks pantyhose at an amazing discount, 12 for $20. Other deals include leggings or capris for $10, swimsuits for $24, tights for $5 and socks for $2. There will also be a selection of girls dancewear, all items marked down to $10.

Purses and accessories from Nine West, Calvin Klein, Guess, and Bally will also be sold at significant discounts.

A&F Apparel Sample Sale December 7-9th

So this is truly the season for shopping, and even better yet for sample sales. There are great deals to be had all over Toronto, including A&F Apparel's sample sale that started today and runs through to Saturday, December 9th.

The sale is located at 70 Wingold Avenue, Unit 7, just west of Dufferin. Hours are 10-8 on Thursday and Friday, 12-4 on Saturday.

Some of the labels featured are Citizens of Humanity, Mimi & Coco, William Rast, People's Liberation, and Heatherette.

Designer Collections Sale December 14-17th

For those of you who really like the Designer labels but can't bring yourself to shell out $250 for a pair of jeans, Designer Collections may just be your answer. This group regularly holds sample sales with top designer brands at 50-80% off. One of the things I love about DC is that they tell you how many items will be for sale (20,000 for this particular sale), and they offer size availability as well as photos of the merchandise on their web site. This way you know whether it's worth your while to go, and if there's something specific you're after, you'll be able to spot it all the more quickly.

Some of the brands featured at DC sales include True Religion, Citizens of Humanity, 7 for all Mankind, James Perse, Diesel, Penguin, Ben Sherman, Juicy Couture, Rock and Republic, and many more.

Umbra Factory Sale at CNE December 9 & 10th

This Saturday and Sunday, December 9 & 10th, Umbra is holding their annual Factory sale at the CNE. If you're in the market for some cheap and stylish home decor items, this sale is a sure hit. Previous sales have had tables for $20, picture frames for $3-$7, playing cards 10 for $1, and clocks from $10-$25. Other items include curtain rods, shelves, bathroom fixtures, garbage cans and much more.

The sale is located in the Automotive Building at CNE and is open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday. Line-ups can get pretty long to get in, so arrive early if you don't want to get stuck waiting outside.
