Butler's Pantry in Roncesvalles Village

Butler's Pantry is a must-stop grub shop in the up and coming hotspot that is Roncesvalles Village. Butler's offers up cheap, delicious dishes with a friendly casual ambience. Whether you're going for lunch, dinner, dessert, or just plain old coffee with friends, Butler's will inevitably have something to please your taste buds without making a dent in your wallet.

Appetizers include a savoury dish of Hummus that goes down smooth with just the right amount of heat, served with warm pita wedges for only $3.25.

One of my favourites and a long-standing tradition at Butler's is the popular Korean dish Bul go gi ($8.70). Tender slices of marinated beef are served alongside rice and a large garden salad with Butler's house dressing.

For vegetarians, the Vegetable Curry Pie ($6.95) provides a melt-in-your-mouth pastry shell that encompasses a tower of fresh mixed veggies in a buttery curry sauce. All main dishes include Butler's famous salad and dressing.

Although prices are low, portions are huge and you will always walk away satisfied. Butler's has three locations in the GTA: Queen West, St. Mirvish Village, and of course Roncesvalles.

AGO Free Wednesday Nights - Grow Some Culture

It's Wednesday. And that means the AGO is free tonight. Every Wednesday night the AGO opens its doors to you for free between the hours of 6 and 9. Of course, this doesn't include special exhibitions, but the permanent collection is always fun. Besides, walking around an Art Gallery for a night just makes you feel smart. You can stand back and stare at a painting while thoughtfully rubbing your chin along with the best of them. And surprisingly the gallery is large enough that it doesn't feel too crowded even on free Wednesdays.

If you want to support the gallery, general admission is only $8 the rest of the time. So it's still reasonably priced if you want to throw caution to the wind and visit on, say, a Thursday night.

For those of you with a bit of money to spend, the current exhibit is Andy Warhol / Supernova, running through to October 22. This exhibit is guest-curated by David Cronenberg so you will definitely get your money's worth. Admission is $18 for us plain old adults, but if you're a student you can get in for $15. The entire family can go for $40 but this exhibit carries a disclaimer for graphic depictions of violence and sexuality, so maybe not the best place for the kiddies.

The gallery is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. So... um, don't go on those days. Yeah.

For more details visit AGO's web site.

Welcome to the Launch of Cheap Toronto

I'm not broke, I'm just cheap. And I've come to learn that no matter how much money we have or don't have, pretty much everyone loves saving money. This blog will feature different things to do, buy, and see in and around the wonderful city of Toronto-- for little or no money at all.

I moved to Toronto a few years ago and have come to discover that being cheap in Toronto doesn't have to mean being bored in Toronto. By sharing these ideas and hearing from all you other cheap Torontonians out there, my hope is that we can take advantage of Cheap Toronto for all it's worth.
